يَا اللهْ أَطْلُبُكَ يَا خَيرْ وَالِي
O Allah, I Beseech You, O Best of Guardians

يَا اللهْ أَطْلُبُكَ يَا خَيرْ وَالِي
جُدْ عَلَيْنَا بِأَكْبَرْ عَطِيَّةْ
ya Allah aṭlubuka yā khaīr wālī
jud ʿalaynā bi akbar ʿaṭiyyah
O Allah, I beseech You, O Best of Guardians,
Bestow upon us the greatest of gifts
وَاشْرَحِ الْصَّدْرْ وَانْظُرْ لِحَالِي
وَاخْتِمِ الْعُمْرْ يَا اللهْ بِالْإِيمَانْ
wash raḥil ṣṣadr wan ẓur liḥālī
wakh timil ʿumr ya Allah bil īmān
Expand my chest and look upon my state,
And seal my life, O Allah, with faith
يَا كَثِيرَ الْعَطَا وَالْنَّوَالِ
عَمَّ جُودَكْ جَمِيعَ الْبَرِيَّةْ
yā kathīral ʿaṭā wal nnawāli
ʿamma jūdak jamīʿal bariyyah
O Abundant in giving and bestowal,
Your generosity encompasses all of creation
أَعْطِنِي كُلَّ مَا هُوَ بِبَالِي
فَأَنْتَ مُعْطِي وَمُحْسِنْ وَمَنَّانْ
aʿṭinī kulla mā huwa bibālī
fa anta muʿṭī wamuḥsin wamannān
Grant me all that is in my heart,
For You are the Giver, the Beneficent, the Bestower
يَا عَوَضْ غَنْ ذَا صُوْتْ حَالِي
ذَكِّرِ الْقَلْبِ وَقْتَ الْهَوِيَّةْ
yā ʿawaḍ ghan dhā ṣuwt ḥālī
dhakkiril qalbi waqtal hawiyyah
O ‘Awad, sing with this sweet voice,
Remind the heart of the time of longing
وَقْتِ قَدْ مَرَّ فِي خَيْرْ حَالِ
لَمْ يُكَدِّرْهُ وَاشٍ وَلَا شَانْ
waqti qad marra fī khayr ḥāli
lam yukaddirhu wāshin walā shān
A time that passed in the finest state,
Unmarred by slanderer or detractor
يَا رَعَى اللهْ تِلْكَ الْلَّيَالِي
كُلَّهَا يَا مُحِبِّيْ زَهِيَّةْ
yā raʿa Allah tilkal llayālī
kullahā yā muḥibbiy zahiyyah
May Allah preserve those nights,
For they were all, O my beloveds, radiant
عَوَّدَ اللهْ وَقْتَ الْوِصَالِ
فِي هَنَا فِي عَوَافِي وَسُلْوَانْ
ʿawwada Allah waqtal wiṣāli
fī hanā fī ʿawāfī wasulwan
May Allah restore the time of union,
In happiness, well-being, and solace
شِلْ بِالْصُّوتْ فَالْقَلْبْ سَالِي
مَا مَعُهْ فِكِرِ فِي ذِي الْدَّنِيَّةْ
shil bil ṣṣūt fal qalb sālī
mā maʿuh fikiri fī dhīl ddaniyyah
Sing out! For the heart is now carefree,
It holds no thought for this lowly world
مُرْتَقَاهُمْ بَعِيدِ الْمَنَالِ
وَالْمَرَاتِبْ رَفِيعَةْ عَلِيَّةْ
murtaqāhum baʿīdil manāli
wal marātib rafīʿah ʿaliyyah
Their ascent is difficult to attain,
And their ranks are exalted and high
فِكْرُهْ إِلَّا مَعَ أَهْلِ الْكَمَالِ
عَالِيِيْنَ الْمَقَامَاتْ وَالْشَّانْ
fikruh illā maʿa ahlil kamāli
ʿāliyiynal maqāmāt wal shshān
Its only thought is of the People of Perfection,
Those of lofty stations and status
مَنْ بَغَاهَا يَمُدْ كُلِّ غَالِي
لَا يُبَالِي بِمَنْقُودِ الْأَثْمَانْ
man baghāhā yamud kulli ghālī
lā yubālī bimanqūdil athmān
Whoever seeks them offers all that is precious,
Caring not for the price he pays
يَنْتَصِبْ فِي عَتِيمِ الْلَّيالِي
يَقْتَفِي سُبُلْ أَهْلِ الْمَعِيَّةْ
yantaṣib fī ʿatīmil llaīālī
yaqtafī subul ahlil maʿiyyah
He stands upright in the darkness of nights,
Following the paths of the people of presence
لِي رَقَوْا فِي مَرَاقِي الْكَمَالِ
وَامْتَلَوْا مِنْ عُلُومٍ وَعِرْفَانْ
lī raqaw fī marāqīl kamāli
wam talaw min ʿulūmin waʿirfan
Those who climbed the steps of perfection,
And were filled with sciences and gnosis
كُلُّ مَنْ حَبَّهُمْ لَا يُبَالِي
يَوْمَ حَالَتُهْ حَالَةْ رَضِيَّةْ
kullu man ḥabbahum lā yubālī
yawma ḥālatuh ḥālah raḍiyyah
Whoever loves them does not care (for worldly loss),
On a day when his state is pleasing
مَا يُشُوفِ الْعَنَاءْ وَالْنَّكَالِ
دُوبْ مَحْرُوسْ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ وَالْجَانْ
mā yushūfil ʿanā’ wal nnakāli
dūb maḥrūs minal insi wal jān
He sees no misery or punishment,
Forever guarded from the harms of men and jinn
يَا أَهْلِ وَادِي الْعَجَلْ يَا رِجَالِي
أَدْرِكُونِي بِشَرْبَةْ هَنِيَّةْ
yā ahli wādīl ʿajal yā rijālī
adrikūnī bisharbah haniyyah
O People of the Valley of Ajal, O my masters,
Reach out to me with a refreshing drink
وَأَوْصِلُوا يَا حَبَايِبْ حِبَالِي
وَأَدْخِلُونِي مَعَاكُمْ فِي الْحَالْ
wa awṣilū yā ḥabāyib ḥibālī
wa adkhilūnī maʿākum fīl ḥaāl
Connect, O beloveds, my ropes to yours,
And admit me with you into the spiritual state
لَأَجْلِ يَرْتَاحْ بِالْقُرْبِ بَالِي
وَالْعَوَامِلْ تُتَمِّي قَوِيَّةْ
la’ajli yartāḥ bil qurbi bālī
wal ʿawāmil tutammī qawiyyah
So that my mind may find rest in your proximity,
And my spiritual resolve remains strong
يَتَّسِعْ لِي كَمَاكُمْ مَجَالِي
وَانْشَرَحْ لِي إِذَا شَلُّوا الْدَّانْ
yattasiʿ lī kamākum majālī
wan sharaḥ lī idhā shallūl ddān
May my inner space expand as yours has,
And may I find joy when the sacred melodies are raised
عِنْدُكُمْ إِرْثْ مَوْلَى بِلَالْ
أَسْعِفُوا يَا الْوُجُوهِ الْرَّضِيَّةْ
ʿindukum irth mawlā bilaāl
asʿifū yal wujūhil rraḍiyyah
With you is the inheritance of the Master of Bilal (the Prophet),
Succor me, O you of the radiant faces
وَانْظُرُوا فِي صَلَاحِ الْعِيَالِ
شُوفُوا الْوَقِتْ مَا فِيهْ مِيزَانْ
wan ẓurū fī ṣalāḥil ʿiyāli
shūfūl waqit mā fīh mīzān
Look toward the righteousness of our children,
Behold how the times have lost their balance
صَارُوا الْنَّاسْ رَهْنَ الْمَحَالِ
وَابْتَلُوا بِالْأُمُورِ الْعَكِيَّةْ
ṣārūl nnās rahnal maḥāli
wab talū bil umūril ʿakiyyah
People have become captives of the impossible,
And are afflicted with tangled affairs
حَدْ يَمِينًا خَذْ وَحَدْ خَذْ شِمَالِي
وَأَصْبَحَ الْعَقْلْ فِي الْوَقْتْ حَيْرَانْ
ḥad yamīnan khadh waḥad khadh shimālī
wa aṣbaḥal ʿaql fīl waqt ḥayrān
One takes the right path, another the left,
And the mind, in these times, is left bewildered
أَحْمَدُ اللهْ وَقْتِيْ صَفَا لِي
يُومْ عُرْوَتِي عُرْوَةْ قَوِيَّةْ
aḥmadu Allah waqtiy ṣafā lī
yūm ʿurwatī ʿurwah qawiyyah
I praise Allah, my time has become clear to me,
The day my bond became a firm, strong bond
مُنْتَهَى الْقَصْدْ فَكِّ الْعِقَالِ
قَالْ : مَرْعِي مُعَامَلْ بِالْإِحْسَانْ
muntahal qaṣd fakkil ʿiqāli
qaāl marʿī muʿāmal bil iḥsān
The ultimate goal is the breaking of the shackles,
It was said: The one who is guarded is treated with excellence
صَلِّ يَا ذَا الْعُلَا وَالْتَّعَالِي
عَلَى الْنَّبِيِّ الْطُّهْرْ خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةْ
ṣalli yā dhal ʿulā wal ttaʿālī
ʿalal nnabiyyil ṭṭuhr khayril bariyyah
Send blessings, O Most High and Exalted,
Upon the Pure Prophet, the best of creation
وَآلِهِ الْغُرِّ مَجْلَى الْكَمَالِ
وَالْصَّحَابَاتْ مَا صَبَّ هَتَّانْ
wa ālihil ghurri majlal kamāli
wal ṣṣaḥābāt mā ṣabba hattān
And his radiant family, the manifestation of perfection,
And the Companions, as long as the clouds pour rain
