معاني قد بدت عندي غريبه

مَعَانِي قَدْ بَدَتْ عِنْدِي غَرِيبَهْ

Wondrous Meanings Have Dawned Upon Me

الحَبِيب عُمَرْ بِن حَفِيظHabib Umar Bin Hafiz

Transliterate

Translation

مَعَانِي قَدْ بَدَتْ عِنْدِي غَرِيبَهْ

وَمَا تُفْضِي إِلِيْهْ بَعْدُ أَغْرَبْ

maʿānī qad badat ʿindī gharībah

wamā tufḍī iliyh baʿdu aghrab

Meanings have dawned upon me, wondrous and rare,

And what they ultimately lead to is even more profound

مِنَحْ مِنْ فَضْلِ مَوْلَانَا عَجِيبَهْ

وَمَاذَا فِي عَطَاهُ لَيْسَ أَعْجَبْ

minaḥ min faḍli mawlānā ʿajībah

wamādhā fī ʿaṭāhu laysa aʿjab

Gifts from the grace of our Lord are truly amazing,

Yet, what in His boundless giving is not a marvel?

وَعِيدُ الْصَّبِ أَنْ يَلْقَى حَبِيبَهْ

وَسُبْحَانَ الَّذِي قَرَّبْ وَحَبَّبْ

waʿīdul ṣṣabi an yalqā ḥabībah

wasubḥānal ladhī qarrab waḥabbab

The lover’s celebration is to meet his Beloved;

Glory be to Him who brought us close and inspired this love

مَعِي أَقْوَامْ فِي أَعْلَى كَتِيبَهْ

لَهُمْ أَسْرَارْ لَا تُحْصَى وَتُكْتَبْ

maʿī aqwam fī aʿlā katībah

lahum asrār lā tuḥṣā watuktab

With me are companions of the highest ranks,

Possessing spiritual secrets beyond what can be counted or written

مَوَاهِبْ عَالِيَةْ مَا هِيْ كَسِيبَهْ

وَإِحْسَانُ الْمُهَيْمِنْ لَيْسَ يُحْسَبْ

mawāhib ʿāliyah mā hiy kasībah

wa iḥsānul muhaymin laysa yuḥsab

Exalted gifts these are, not earned by mere toil,

For the Benevolence of the Protector cannot be calculated

وَمَنْ لُهْ سَابِقَهْ يُدْرِكْ نَصِيبَهْ

مُوَفَّى دُونَ أَنْ يَشْقَى وَيَتْعَبْ

waman luh sābiqah yudrik naṣībah

muwaffā dūna an yashqā wayatʿab

Whoever has a prior destiny of grace shall claim his share,

Granted to him in full, without hardship or weariness

وَنَفْحَةُ بَاسِطِ الْنَّعْمَى قَرِيبَهْ

تَعَرَّضْ يَا فَتَى مِنْهَا تَقَرَّبْ

wanafḥatu bāsiṭil nnaʿmā qarībah

taʿarraḍ yā fatā minhā taqarrab

The gentle breeze of the The Extender of Provision is near;

Expose yourself to it, O youth, and draw close

عَسَى الْمَكْلُومْ أَنْ يَلْقَى طَبِيبَهْ

فَيُضْحِي الْعِيْشْ لُهْ أَطْيَبْ وَأَطْيَبْ

ʿasal maklūm an yalqā ṭabībah

fayuḍḥīl ʿiysh luh aṭyab wa aṭyab

Perhaps the wounded will finally meet its Healer,

So that life becomes for it ever sweeter and purer

وَصَلَّى اللهُ مَا أَفْهَامٌ نَجِيبَهْ

وَعَتْ قَوْلاً بِمَاءِ الْعَيْنِ يُكْتَبْ

waṣalla Allahu mā afhāmun najībah

waʿat qawlan bimā’il ʿayni yuktab

May God bestow His blessings, as long as noble minds,

Comprehend words worthy of being written with the tears of the eye

عَلَى خَيْرِ الْوَرَى الْهَادِي حَبِيبِهْ

وَآلِهْ وَالَّذِي لِلْطُّهْرِ يَصْحَبْ

ʿalā khayril waral hādī ḥabībih

wa ālih wal ladhī lilṭṭuhri yaṣḥab

Upon the best of creation, the Guide, His Beloved,

And upon his family and all who accompany him in purity
