قُلْتُ لَمَّا غَابَ عَنِّي
I Said, When He Disappeared from Me

قُلْتُ لَمَّا غَابَ عَنِّي
نُورُ مَرَاكَ الْمَصُون
qultu lammā ghāba ʿannī
nūru marākal maṣūn
I said, when the light of your guarded beauty,
was lost and hidden from me,
شَفَّنِي وَاللَّهِ سُقْمٌ
فِيهِ قَدْ ذُقْتُ الْمَنُونَ
shaffanī wa Allahi suqmun
fīhi qad dhuqtul manūna
"By Allah, an affliction has consumed me,
in which I have tasted death itself
وَعُيُونِي مِنْ نَحِيبٍ
جَارِيَاتٌ كَالْعُيُون
waʿuyūnī min naḥībin
jāriyātun kal ʿuyūn
My eyes, from bitter weeping,
are overflowing like running springs
وَجُفُونِي مَا كَفَاهَا
مَا جَرَى حَتَّى جَفُون
wajufūnī mā kafāhā
mā jarā ḥattā jafūn
And my eyelids were not content with all the tears that flowed,
until they themselves ran dry
هَامَ قَلْبِي زَادَ وَجْدِي
فَمَتَى وَصْلَكْ يَكُونُ
hāma qalbī zāda wajdī
famatā waṣlak yakūnu
My heart wanders in love, my longing grows,
so when will our reunion be?
غَابَ عَنْ عَيْنِي ضِيَاهَا
يَا قَمَرَ دَارِي الْعُيُون
ghāba ʿan ʿaynī ḍiyāhā
yā qamara dārīl ʿuyūn
The light has vanished from my sight,
O beautiful Moon, bring solace to these eyes
