قَدْ طَابَ فِي مَدْحِ الرَّسُولِ مَدِيحُ
qad ṭāba fī madḥir rasūli madīḥu
Sweet has become the praise in praising the Messenger
وَبِهِ حَلَا التَّلوِيحُ وَالتَّلمِيحُ
wabihi ḥalat talwīḥu wat talmīḥu
And through him, allusions and hints have grown pleasant
وَمُبَشِّراً مِنْ قَبْلُ قَالَ مَسِيحُ
wamubashshiran min qablu qāla masīḥu
And as a bearer of glad tidings, the Messiah spoke of old
جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ الـمَمْدُوحُ
وَعَلَيْهِ لَأْلَاءُ الـجَلالِ يَلُوحُ
jā’an nabiyyu muḥammadul mamdūḥu
waʿalayhi la’lā’ul jalāli yalūḥu
The praised Prophet Muhammad has come
And upon him the radiance of majesty appears
قَدْ فَاقَ مَبْداً في الوُجُودِ وَمَخْلَصَا
qad fāqa mabdan fīl wujūdi wamakhlaṣā
He surpassed all in origin within existence and in conclusion
وَزَكَا عُمُوماً بِالـهُدَى وَتَخَصَّصَا
wazakā ʿumūman bil hudā watakhaṣṣaṣā
And he was pure in general guidance and in specific distinction
وَلَقَدْ تَـجَـلَّى بِالـجَمَـالِ مُقَمَّصَا
walaqad tajallā bil jamāli muqammaṣā
And he was indeed manifested, cloaked in beauty
جَلَّ الَّذِي سَوَّاهُ نُوراً خَالِصاً
وَسِوَاهُ طِينٌ يَسْتَسِلُّ صَرِيحُ
jallal ladhī sawwāhu nūran khāliṣan
wasiwāhu ṭīnun yastasillu ṣarīḥu
Exalted is He Who fashioned him as pure light
While others are clay, purely drawn forth
أَنَا صَادِحٌ بِمَدِيـحِهِ وَمُغَرِّدٌ
anā ṣādiḥun bimadīḥihi wamugharridun
I am a singer of his praise and a melodious warbler
وَبِمَدْحِهِ يُعْلَى النَّشَائِد مُنْشِدٌ
wabimadḥihi yuʿlan nashā’id munshidun
And through his praise, the chanter raises the anthems
فَخْراً بِمَنْ هُوَ لِلبَرِيَّةِ سَيِّدٌ
fakhran biman huwa lilbariyyati sayyidun
Boasting of him who is the Master of all creation
جَهْراً بِمَدْحِ مُحَمَّدٍ فَمُحَمَّدٌ
صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ إِلَـٰهُنَا وَالرُّوحُ
jahran bimadḥi muḥammadin famuḥammadun
ṣallā ʿalayhi ilāhunā war rūḥu
Openly praising Muhammad, then Muhammad
Our God and the Spirit have blessed him
حَازَ العُلَى وَلَـهَا هُوَ السَّامِي السَّنَدْ
ḥāzal ʿulā walahā huwas sāmīs sanad
He attained the heights, and for them he is the sublime support
وَلَنَا هُنَا وَهُنَاكَ فَهْوَ الـمُسْتَنَدْ
walanā hunā wahunāka fahwal mustanad
For us, both here and there, he is the reliance
قَدْ عَزَّ مَرْقَى وَهْوَ أَغْلَا مَنْ سَجَدْ
qad ʿazza marqā wahwa aghlā man sajad
Mighty is his ascent, and he is the most precious of those who prostrated
جَازَ الـمَدَا بِشَرِيعَةٍ غَرَّا وَقَدْ
نَسَخَتْ فَلِلحَقِّ الـمُبِينِ وُضُوحُ
jāzal madā bisharīʿatin gharrā waqad
nasakhat falilḥaqqil mubīni wuḍūḥu
He traversed the limits with a radiant law
Which abrogated others, so the manifest truth is clear
سَامِي الـمَراتِبِ لَمْ يَنَلهُ مَنْ صَعَدْ
sāmīl marātibi lam yanalhu man ṣaʿad
Of sublime ranks, no climber has ever attained his station
وَبِهِ الـمَدِينَةُ قَدْ تَسَامَتْ وَالبَلَدْ
wabihil madīnatu qad tasāmat wal balad
Through him, the City and the land became exalted
وَمَدِيـحُهُ مِنْهُ لِـمَنْ مَدَحَ الـمَدَدْ
wamadīḥuhu minhu liman madaḥal madad
And from him, his praise grants aid to those who praise
جَمَعَ الـمَنَاقِبَ لَمْ يَضِقْ ذَرْعاً وَقَدْ
وَسِعَ البَرِيَّةَ صَدْرُهُ الـمَشْرُوحُ
jamaʿal manāqiba lam yaḍiq dharʿan waqad
wasiʿal bariyyata ṣadruhul mashrūḥu
He gathered all virtues without being constrained
While his expanded breast encompassed all creation
نُورُ الإِلَـٰهِ حَبِيبُهُ وَأَمِينُهُ
nūrul ilāhi ḥabībuhu wa amīnuhu
Light of God, His Beloved, and His Trustee
أَهْدَى السَّنَا لِلنِّيَّرَاتِ جَبِينُهُ
ahdas sanā lilnniyyarāti jabīnuhu
His forehead bestowed brilliance upon the luminaries
بَحْرٌ وَمِنْهُ الـجُودُ فَاضَ مَعِينُهُ
baḥrun waminhul jūdu fāḍa maʿīnuhu
A sea from which the spring of generosity overflowed
جَلَّادةٌ يَوْمَ اللِّقاءِ يَمِينُهُ
جَوَّادَةٌ يَوْمَ العَطَاءِ مَنُوْحُ
jallādtun yawmal liqā’i yamīnuhu
jawwādatun yawmal ʿaṭā’i manuwḥu
Firm on the day of encounter is his right hand
Generous and giving on the day of bestowal
أَعْظِمْ بِطَهَ مِنْ رَضِيٍّ مُرْتَضَى
aʿẓim biṭaha min raḍiyyin murtaḍā
How great is Taha, pleased and well-pleasing!
كَمْ قَدْ جَلَا وَجْهاً لِـحَقٍّ أَبْيَضَا
kam qad jalā wajhan liḥaqqin abyaḍā
How often has he revealed the white face of truth?
وَلَكَمْ حَبَى مَنْ يَقْتَضِيهِ مُقْتَضَا
walakam ḥabā man yaqtaḍīhi muqtaḍā
How often has he granted what the seeker requires?
جَوَّدْتُ مَدْحِي فِي النَّبِيِّ تَعَرُّضاً
لِنَوَالِهِ فَأَتَانِيَ التَّصْرِيحُ
jawwadtu madḥī fīn nabiyyi taʿarruḍan
linawālihi fa atāniyat taṣrīḥu
I have refined my praise for the Prophet, seeking
His bounty, and thus the declaration reached me
مَدْحِي لِـخَيْرِ الـمُرْسَلِينَ وَسِيلَتِي
madḥī likhayril mursalīna wasīlatī
My praise for the best of Messengers is my means
وَلِكُلِّ سُؤْلٍ أَرْتَـجِيهِ وِصْلَتِي
walikulli su’lin artajīhi wiṣlatī
And for every request I hope for, it is my connection
وَصْفِي بِحَالِ البُعْدِ فَاسْمَعْ قَوَلَتِي
waṣfī biḥālil buʿdi fas maʿ qawalatī
My description in the state of distance, so hear my word
جَارِي الـمَدَامِعَ نَازِحٌ مِنْ مُقْلَتِي
شَوْقاً وَمَالِي عَنْ هَوَاهُ نُزُوحُ
jārīl madāmiʿa nāziḥun min muqlatī
shawqan wamālī ʿan hawāhu nuzūḥu
Tears flowing, distant from my eyes
Out of longing, and from his love I have no departure
قَدْ كِدْتُ مِنْ شَوْقِي أَطِيرُ بِجُمْلَتِي
qad kidtu min shawqī aṭīru bijumlatī
I almost flew entirely out of my longing
لَوْلَا رَجَائِي وَصْلُهُ وَتَعِلَّتِي
lawlā rajā’ī waṣluhu wataʿillatī
Were it not for my hope for union and my consolation
وَأَنَا الَّذِي بِالوَجْدِ كَمْ مِنْ لَيْلَةٍ
wa anal ladhī bil wajdi kam min laylatin
And I am he who, through passion, how many a night
جَافَى الكَرَى جَفْنِي وَأَرَّقَ مُقْلَتِي
شَوْقاً إلَيْهِ وَبَرَّحَ التَّبْرِيحُ
jāfal karā jafnī wa arraqa muqlatī
shawqan alayhi wabarraḥat tabrīḥu
Slumber shunned my eyelids and kept my eyes awake
Longing for him, as the suffering intensified
بِمَدِيحِ طَهَ قَدْ كُفِيتُ أَذَى العِدَا
bimadīḥi ṭaha qad kufītu adhal ʿidā
By praising Taha, I was spared the harm of foes
وَأَتَى النَّدَا مِنْ جَاهِهِ لِي بِالنِّدَا
wa atan nadā min jāhihi lī bin nidā
And the call came to me from his prestige with a summons
فَطَفِقْتُ أَشْدُوا فِيهِ شُكْراً مُنْشِدَا
faṭafiqtu ashdū fīhi shukran munshidā
So I began to sing of him in gratitude, a chanter
جُلِيَتْ عَرَائِسُ مِدْحَتِي لِنَبِي الـهُدَى
مُذْ زَانَـهَا التَّقْلِيدُ وَالتَّوْشِيحُ
juliyat ʿarā’isu midḥatī linabīl hudā
mudh zānahat taqlīdu wat tawshīḥu
The brides of my praise were displayed for the Prophet of Guidance
Since adornment and embellishment beautified them
أَهْلُ الـمَحَبَّةِ وَالـهُدَى مَـحْبُوبُهُمْ
ahlul maḥabbati wal hudā maḥbūbuhum
The people of love and guidance—he is their beloved
هُوَ سُؤْلُـهُمْ وَثَنَاءُهُ مَطْلُوبُهُمْ
huwa su’luhum wathanā’uhu maṭlūbuhum
He is their quest and his praise is their desire
وَإِذَا اعْـتَـرَتْـهُمْ بِالنُّـزُوحِ كُـرُوبُـهُـمْ
wa idhaʿ tarathum bin nuzūḥi kurūbuhum
And when their distresses befall them in their distance
جَنَحَتْ إِلَى مَدْحِ النَّبِيِّ قُلُوبُـهُمْ
وَلِكُلِّ مُشْتَاقٍ إِلَيْهِ جُنُوحُ
janaḥat ilā madḥin nabiyyi qulūbuhum
walikulli mushtāqin ilayhi junūḥu
Their hearts incline toward the praise of the Prophet
And for every yearning soul, there is an inclination
