فَزَّازِيَّة
Fazzaziyya

بِجَمَـالِ طَهَ كَرُمَ النَّاسُوتُ
bijamāli ṭaha karuman nāsūtu
With the beauty of Taha, humanity was honored,
وَتَبَلَّجَ الـمَلَكُوتُ وَالـجَبَرُوتُ
wataballajal malakūtu wal jabarūtu
And the dominion and power shone forth.
وَبِهِ تَجَـلَّـى الرُّوحُ والرَّحَـمُوتُ
wabihi tajallar rūḥu wālrraḥamūtu
Through him, the spirit and mercy were revealed,
بِظُهُورِ أَحْمَدَ أُخْمِدَ الطَّاغُوتُ
وَدَحَاهُ أَسْفَلَ ظِلفِهِ البَهَمُوتُ
biẓuhūri aḥmada ukhmidaṭ ṭāghūtu
wadaḥāhu asfala ẓilfihil bahamūtu
With Ahmad's appearance, the false god was extinguished,
And the Behemoth trampled it beneath its hoof.
سَامِي العُلَا بِمَكَانَةٍ قُدْسِيَّةٍ
sāmīl ʿulā bimakānatin qudsiyyatin
Exalted in a sacred position,
وَجَلَالَةٍ فِي حَضْرَةٍ أُنْسِيَّةٍ
wajalālatin fī ḥaḍratin unsiyyatin
And majesty in a human presence.
قَدْ فَاقَ بِالتَّخْصِيصِ فِي جِنْسِيَّةٍ
qad fāqa bit takhṣīṣi fī jinsiyyatin
He surpassed in distinction within his kind,
بَـهَرَ الأَنَامَ بِطَلعَةٍ شَمْسِيَّةٍ
بَدْرُ الدُّجَا بِضِيَائِهَا مَبْهُوتُ
baharal anāma biṭalʿatin shamsiyyatin
badrud dujā biḍiyā’ihā mabhūtu
Amazed humanity with a sun-like visage,
The full moon at night is bewildered by its light.
هَادي البَرِيَّةِ بَلْ خَليفَةُ رَبِّـهَا
hādīl bariyyati bal khalīfatu rabbihā
Guide of creation, indeed the successor of its Lord,
نُورٌ بَدَا فِي شَرْقِهَا وَبِغَرْبِـهَا
nūrun badā fī sharqihā wabigharbihā
A light appeared in its east and west.
هُوَ رَحْـمَةٌ عَمَّتْ بِوَاسِعِ رَحْبِهَا
huwa raḥmatun ʿammat biwāsiʿi raḥbihā
He is a mercy that spread with its vastness,
بَدْرٌ لِـمَوْلِدِهِ السَّمَـاءُ بِشُهْبِهَا
قَدْ حُرِسَتْ وَتَعَطَّلَ الكَهَنُوتُ
badrun limawlidihis samā’u bishuhbihā
qad ḥurisat wataʿaṭṭalal kahanūtu
The sky celebrated his birth with its meteors,
Guarded it and the priesthood was disrupted.
هُوَ صَادِقٌ بِالنُّورِ أَشْرَقَ صُبْحُهُ
huwa ṣādiqun bin nūri ashraqa ṣubḥuhu
He is truthful, with light his dawn shone,
صَدْرٌ زَكَا صَدْراً تَكَرَّرَ شَرْحُهُ
ṣadrun zakā ṣadran takarrara sharḥuhu
A chest purified, repeatedly explained.
وَمَدِيـحُهُ فِي الكُتْبِ أَبْـهَـجَ شَرْحُهُ
wamadīḥuhu fīl kutbi abhaja sharḥuhu
His praise in the books delighted its explanation,
بِكِتَابِ عِيسَى ثُمَّ مُوسَى مَدْحُهُ
وَلَهُ صِفَاتٌ فِيهِمَـا وَنُعُوتُ
bikitābi ʿīsā thumma mūsā madḥuhu
walahu ṣifātun fīhimā wanuʿūtu
In the book of Jesus and then Moses is his praise,
And he has attributes and descriptions in both.
أَعْظِمْ بِخَيْرِ الـمُرْسَلِينَ مُعَظَّمَـا
aʿẓim bikhayril mursalīna muʿaẓẓamā
Exalt the best of messengers, revered,
وَبِمَدْحِهِ جَاءَ الكِتَابُ مُتَرْجِـمَـا
wabimadḥihi jā’al kitābu mutarjimā
And with his praise, the book came translated,
وَطَوَى الـمَدَائِحَ يَا لَهُ مَدْحاً سَمَـا
waṭawal madā’iḥa yā lahu madḥan samā
And it encompassed the praises, oh what praise it was!
بَادَتْ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَائِلِ عِنْدَمَا
خَصَمَ الـخُصُومَ كِتَابَهُ الـمَثْبُوتُ
bādat asāṭīrul awā’ili ʿindamā
khaṣamal khuṣūma kitābahul mathbūtu
The myths of the ancients vanished when
His established book defeated the opponents.
إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ الـمُصْطَفَى ذُخْرُ الـمَلَا
innan nabiyyal muṣṭafā dhukhrul malā
Indeed, the chosen prophet is the treasure of the assembly,
أَعْلَاهُ مَوْلَاهُ الـمُهَيْمِنُ فَاعْتَلَا
aʿlāhu mawlāhul muhayminu faʿ talā
His master, the Dominant, elevated him, so he ascended.
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ أَسْرَى بِهِ لَيْلاً إِلَى
subḥāna man asrā bihi laylan ilā
Glory to the One who took him by night to
بِالقُدْسِ أُسْرِيَ بِالنَّبِيِّ إِلَى العُلَا
حَتَّى زَهَا بِجَلَالِهِ الـمَلَكُوتُ
bil qudsi usriya bin nabiyyi ilal ʿulā
ḥattā zahā bijalālihil malakūtu
Jerusalem, the prophet was taken to the heights,
Until the dominion shone with his majesty.
إنِّي بِذِكْرِ الـمَدْحِ فِيهِ رَائِقٌ
ānnī bidhikril madḥi fīhi rā’iqun
I am pleased with the mention of his praise,
وَالقَلبُ مِنِّي فِي عُلَاهُ وَامِقٌ
wal qalbu minnī fī ʿulāhu wāmiqun
And my heart is enamored with his exaltation.
حَقّاً أَقُولُ وَإِنَّ قَوْلِي صَادِقٌ
ḥaqqan aqūlu wa inna qawlī ṣādiqun
Truly I say, and my words are truthful,
بَقِيَتْ بِقَلبِي مِنْ هَوَاهُ عَلَائِقٌ
فَلِذَاكَ عَنْ هَذَا الوُجُودِ فَنِيتُ
baqiyat biqalbī min hawāhu ʿalā’iqun
falidhāka ʿan hadhal wujūdi fanītu
Remnants of his love remain in my heart,
Therefore, I have perished from this existence.
هِيَ وِصْلَتِي أَكْرِمْ بِتِلْكَ عَلائِقاً
hiya wiṣlatī akrim bitilka ʿalā’iqan
It is my connection, honor those ties,
لَيْسَتْ كَمَـا قَالَ الوُشَاةُ عَوَائِقاً
laysat kamā qālal wushātu ʿawā’iqan
Not as the slanderers said, obstacles.
وَبِهِ انْتَهَجْتُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْهُ طَرَائِقاً
wabihin tahajtu ilayhi minhu ṭarā’iqan
And through him, I pursued paths to him,
بَاتَتْ جُفُونِي بِالدُّمُوعِ عَوَارِقاً
وَالـمُذْنِبُ الـمَبْعُودُ كَيْفَ يَبِيتُ
bātat jufūnī bid dumūʿi ʿawāriqan
wal mudhnibul mabʿūdu kayfa yabītu
My eyes became drenched with tears,
And how does the distant sinner sleep?
جِسْمِي أَرَاهُ لَا يُطَاوِعُ مُهْجَتِي
jismī arāhu lā yuṭāwiʿu muhjatī
I see my body not complying with my soul,
وَكَذَاكَ قَلبِي لَا يُلَائِمُ جُثَّتِي
wakadhāka qalbī lā yulā’imu juththatī
And likewise, my heart does not suit my body,
وَالشَّوْقُ مُضْطَرِمٌ بِنَارِ الفُرْقَةِ
wash shawqu muḍṭarimun bināril furqati
And longing is inflamed with the fire of separation,
بِشِغَافِ قَلبِي كَيْفَ تَبْرُدُ غَلَّتِي
وَلِنَارِهِ تِذْكارُهُ كِبْرِيتُ
bishighāfi qalbī kayfa tabrudu ghallatī
walinārihi tidhkāruhu kibrītu
In the depths of my heart, how does my thirst cool?
And his memory is the sulfur for its fire.
كَمْ أَغْتَذِي كَمْ ذَا أَرُوحُ مُؤَمِّلاً
kam aghtadhī kam dhā arūḥu muammilan
How often do I nourish myself, how often do I hope,
أَعْلُو وَتُولِينِي الذُّنُوبَ تَنَزُّلاً
aʿlū watūlīnīdh dhunūba tanazzulan
I rise and my sins bring me down,
بِوَثَاقِ تَسْويفِي بَقِيتُ مُكَبَّلاً
biwathāqi taswīfī baqītu mukabbalan
Bound by the chains of my procrastination,
بِعَسَى وَسَوْفَ أَزُورُ رُحْتُ مُعَلِّلاً
وَالعُمْرُ يَنْفَدُ وَالزَّمَانُ يَفُوتُ
biʿasā wasawfa azūru ruḥtu muʿallilan
wal ʿumru yanfadu waz zamānu yafūtu
With "perhaps" and "soon" I visit, I comfort myself,
And life is ending, and time is passing.
مَنْ لِي وَهَلْ لِي أَنْ أَزُورَ لِطَيْبَةِ
man lī wahal lī an azūra liṭaybati
Who is there for me, and can I visit Taybah,
دَارِ الحَبِيبِ وَتِلكَ أَيُّ حَبِيبَةِ
dāril ḥabībi watilka ayyu ḥabībati
The abode of the beloved, and what a beloved!
يَا رَبِّ جُدْ لِي بِاسْتِجَابَةِ دَعْوَتِي
yā rabbi jud lī bis tijābati daʿwatī
O Lord, grant me the answer to my prayer,
بِجَلَالِهِ يَا رَبِّ عَجِّلْ زَوْرَتِي
فَعَسَى أُشَاهِدُ قَبْرَهُ وَأَمُوتُ
bijalālihi yā rabbi ʿajjil zawratī
faʿasā ushāhidu qabrahu wa amūtu
By His majesty, O Lord, hasten my visit,
So perhaps I may see his grave and die.
