Fazzaziyya
En

(ع) حرف العين

بِمُحَمَّدٍ قَدْرُ الـمَدِيحِ رَفِيعُ
bimuḥammadin qadrul madīḥi rafīʿu
Through Muhammad, the worth of praise is exalted
وَالنَّظْمُ فِيهِ لِلبَيَانِ بَدِيعُ
wan naẓmu fīhi lilbayāni badīʿu
And poetry concerning him is, for eloquence, wondrous
وَبِهِ زَهَا التَّوْشِيحُ وَالتَّوْشِيعُ
wabihi zahat tawshīḥu wat tawshīʿu
And by him, the embellishment and ornamentation flourish
ظَهَرَتْ مَدَائِحُ فِي النَّبِيِّ تَشِيعُ
فَاسْمَعْ لَـهَا إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ سَمِيعُ
ẓaharat madā’iḥu fīn nabiyyi tashīʿu
fas maʿ lahā innan nabiyya samīʿu
Praises of the Prophet have appeared and spread
so listen to them, for the Prophet is all-hearing
أَمْدَاحُ خَيْرِ الـخَلقِ عَنْهُ تَفَرَّعَتْ
amdāḥu khayril khalqi ʿanhu tafarraʿat
Praises of the best of creation have branched from him
إِذْ فِيهِ كُلُّ الـمَكْرُمَاتِ تَجَمَّعَتْ
idh fīhi kullul makrumāti tajammaʿat
For in him all noble qualities have gathered
بِعُلَاهُ أَبْيَاتِي زَكَتْ وَتَرَفَّعَتْ
biʿulāhu abyātī zakat wataraffaʿat
By his loftiness my verses became pure and elevated
ظَرُفَتْ بِأَوْصَافِ النَّبِيِّ وَأَبْدَعَتْ
إِنَّ الـحَدِيثَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ بَدِيعُ
ẓarufat bi awṣāfin nabiyyi wa abdaʿat
innal ḥadītha ʿanin nabiyyi badīʿu
They grew elegant through the Prophet’s attributes and excelled
for discourse regarding the Prophet is marvelous
أَمْدَاحُهُ اهْتَدَتْ لَنَا إِسْعَادَهَا
amdāḥuhuh tadat lanā isʿādahā
His praises have guided us to our happiness
وَلَقَدْ رَوَى صَفْوُ الوُلَا إِيرَادَهَا
walaqad rawā ṣafwul wulā īrādahā
And the elite of the devoted have narrated their arrival
وَحَبَا القَبُولَ سَنَا الرِّضَى رُوَّادَهَا
waḥabal qabūla sanar riḍā ruwwādahā
The radiance of divine pleasure granted acceptance to those who seek them
ظَلنَا نُرَجِّعُ بَيْنَنَا إِنْشَادَهَا
فِي الـحَيِّ وَالمِسْكُ العَبِيقُ يَضُوعُ
ẓalnā nurajjiʿu baynanā inshādahā
fīl ḥayyi wal miskul ʿabīqu yaḍūʿu
We continued to chant their recitation among us
in the encampment, as the fragrant musk diffuses
فِرَقُ الأَعَادِي بِالـحَبِيبِ تَفَرَّقَتْ
firaqul aʿādī bil ḥabībi tafarraqat
The ranks of enemies were dispersed by the Beloved
وَلَهُ بُدُورُ الـمُعْجِزَاتِ تَأَلَّقَتْ
walahu budūrul muʿjizāti ta’allaqat
And for him, the full moons of miracles shone brightly
فَمَحَتْ دَيَاجِيرَ العِدَا إِذْ أشْرَقَتْ
famaḥat dayājīral ʿidā idh ashraqat
They erased the darkness of foes when they dawned
ظُلَمُ الضَّلَالَةِ بِالنَّبِيِّ تَـمَزَّقَتْ
وَانْشَقَّ فَجْرُ هُدَاهُ فَهْوَ لَـمُوعُ
ẓulamuḍ ḍalālati bin nabiyyi tamazzaqat
wan shaqqa fajru hudāhu fahwa lamūʿu
The shadows of misguidance were torn asunder by the Prophet
and the dawn of his guidance broke, radiant and gleaming
بِمَدِيحِ طَهَ قَدْ حَلَا مَشْرُوبُنَا
bimadīḥi ṭaha qad ḥalā mashrūbunā
Through the praise of Taha, our drink has become sweet
وَبِنَشْرِ ذِكْرَاهُ جُلِينَ كُرُوبُنَا
wabinashri dhikrāhu julīna kurūbunā
And by spreading his remembrance, our afflictions were dispelled
وَمَزَارُ رَوْضَةِ طَيْبَةٍ مَطْلُوبُنَا
wamazāru rawḍati ṭaybatin maṭlūbunā
And visiting the garden of Tayba is our ultimate quest
ظَمِئَتْ إِلَى قَبْرِ النَّبِيِّ قُلُوبُنَا
فَبِكُلِّ قَلبٍ غَلَّةٌ وَنُزُوعُ
ẓami’at ilā qabrin nabiyyi qulūbunā
fabikulli qalbin ghallatun wanuzūʿu
Our hearts have thirsted for the Prophet’s tomb
for in every heart is a burning thirst and a longing
عُجْنَا إِلَيْهِ بِحَرِّ جِدٍّ مُشْتَعِل
ʿujnā ilayhi biḥarri jiddin mushtaʿil
We turned toward him with the heat of burning resolve
وَضَمِيرُ وَجْدٍ بِالصَّبَابَةِ مُتَّصِل
waḍamīru wajdin biṣ ṣabābati muttaṣil
And an inner state of ecstasy linked with tender passion
وَبَرَاعَةُ الأَشْوَاقِ مِنَّا تَسْتَهِل
wabarāʿatul ashwāqi minnā tastahil
And the eloquence of our yearnings begins to pour forth
ظَعِنَتْ قَلائِصُنَا إِلَيْهِ وَنَحْنُ فِي
الأَكْوَارِ شَوْقاً سُجَّدٌ وَرُكُوعُ
ẓaʿinat qalā’iṣunā ilayhi wanaḥnu fī
alakwāri shawqan sujjadun warukūʿu
Our mounts journeyed toward him while we, in
the saddles, were bowing and prostrating in longing
يَا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي هَل فُؤَادِي بَالِغٌ
yā layta shiʿrī hal fuādī bālighun
Would that I knew! Will my heart ever attain
مَا يَرْتَـجِيهِ وَبَدْرُ أُنْسِي بَازِغٌ
mā yartajīhi wabadru unsī bāzighun
What it hopes for, while the full moon of my intimacy rises?
فَهُدَى الـحَبِيبِ لِكُلِّ زَيْغٍ دَامِغٌ
fahudal ḥabībi likulli zayghin dāmighun
For the Beloved’s guidance is a refutation of all deviance
ظِلُّ النَّبِيِّ عَلَى البَرِيَّةِ سَابِغٌ
وَمَقَامُهُ رَحْبُ الفِنَاءِ وَسِيعُ
ẓillun nabiyyi ʿalal bariyyati sābighun
wamaqāmuhu raḥbul finā’i wasīʿu
The Prophet’s shadow is ample over all of creation
and his station is a vast and spacious courtyard
إِنِّي لَعَبْدٌ كُلُّ فِعْلي سَيِّءٌ
innī laʿabdun kullu fiʿlī sayyi’un
Indeed, I am a servant whose every deed is evil
جَاهُ النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٌ لِي مَلجَأٌ
jāhun nabiyyi muḥammadun lī malja’un
The status of the Prophet Muhammad is my sanctuary
وَمَدِيـحُهُ مِـمَّـا أُحَاذِرُ مَنْجَأٌ
wamadīḥuhu mimmā uḥādhiru manja’un
And his praise is a deliverance from all that I fear
ظَنِّي بِهِ حَسَنٌ وَلِكِنِّي امْرُؤٌ
لِعَظِيمِ ذَنْبِي آمِنٌ وَجَزُوعُ
ẓannī bihi ḥasanun walikinnīm ruun
liʿaẓīmi dhanbī āminun wajazūʿu
My opinion of him is good, yet I am a man
safe yet trembling due to the greatness of my sin
نَظْمِي بِأَمْدَاحِ الحَبِيبِ مُجَوَّدٌ
naẓmī bi amdāḥil ḥabībi mujawwadun
My poetry in the Beloved's praises is perfected
وَبِذِكْرِهِ دُرُّ الكَلَامِ مُنَضَّدٌ
wabidhikrihi durrul kalāmi munaḍḍadun
And by his mention, the pearls of speech are arrayed
وَالـجَاهُ مِنْهُ لِـمَحْوِ ذَنْبِي مَقْصَدٌ
wal jāhu minhu limaḥwi dhanbī maqṣadun
And his high standing is my aim for the erasure of my sin
ظَهْرِي يَنُوءُ بِزَلَّتِي وَمُحَمَّدٌ
خَيْرُ البَرِيَّةِ لِلأَنَامِ شَفِيعُ
ẓahrī yanū’u bizallatī wamuḥammadun
khayrul bariyyati lilanāmi shafīʿu
My back is weighed down by my lapse, yet Muhammad
is the best of creation, an intercessor for all people
لَا زِلتُ أَجْهَدُ بِالـمَدِيحِ وَأَعْتَنِي
lā ziltu ajhadu bil madīḥi wa aʿtanī
I shall continue to strive in praise and take great care
وَلِدُرِّهِ الغَالِي أَصُونُ وَأَقْتَنِي
walidurrihil ghālī aṣūnu wa aqtanī
And for its precious pearls, I preserve and possess
وَلِيَ الـهَنَاءُ فَمَدْحُ أَحْمَدَ سَرَّنِي
waliyal hanā’u famadḥu aḥmada sarranī
To me belongs bliss, for the praise of Ahmad has gladdened me
ظَفَرِي بِمِدْحَتِهِ يُـحَقِّقُ أنَّنِي
فِي جَائِزِي يَوْمَ الـجَزَاءِ طَمُوعُ
ẓafarī bimidḥatihi yuḥaqqiqu annanī
fī jā’izī yawmal jazā’i ṭamūʿu
My success in his praise confirms that I
am covetous of my reward on the Day of Recompense
يَا قَلبِيَ اسْتَيْقِظْ فَكَمْ أَسْقَيْتَنِي
yā qalbiyas tayqiẓ fakam asqaytanī
O my heart, awake! For how often have you given me to drink
كَأْسَ الـخَطَاءِ وَكَمْ بِـهَا أَقْسَيْتَنِي
ka sal khaṭā’i wakam bihā aqsaytanī
The cup of error, and how often by it have you hardened me?
وَنَزَلتَ بِي جَهْلاً وَمَا عَلَّيْتَنِي
wanazalta bī jahlan wamā ʿallaytanī
You brought me down in ignorance and did not elevate me
ظُلمِي لِنَفْسِي بِالـمَـعَاصِي لَيْتَنِي
لَوُ كُنْتُ أعْصِي تَارَةً وَأُطِيعُ
ẓulmī linafsī bil maʿāṣī laytanī
lawu kuntu aʿṣī tāratan wa uṭīʿu
My wronging of myself through sins—would that I
had sinned but sometimes and obeyed at others
