O seeker of the Beloved’s sanctuary, turning toward it

So that its constellations may encompass him there

And that an ascent for elevation may be granted to him

Repent from your slumber, for the night-traveling is delightful

And behold the sea of night, how it surges

Seek not, O my brother, any path but the straight way

And tread upon it with fair conduct and remain upright

And when you kneel your mount to take provision or drink your fill

Rouse your young camel and urge her, that there may fold

For you in your night-journey to the Prophet, the mountain passes

For the accepted Intercessor, my love is my advocate

And through him, I hope for the bliss of my rising star

And his bounty is what raises me to his sanctuary

My tears flow profusely out of longing for him

And for the fire of my yearning in the heart, there is a blaze

My expression has crossed over to the wondrous meaning

And my state has become sweet by the praises of the Praised One

My merchandise has profited from what I composed for him

As a price to the Guide, I have offered my soul’s last breath

That perhaps he might pass by its abode and turn toward it

Majestic are the manifestations of the Chosen One, for he is the most sublime

And his loftiness surpassed the later ones and the first

He journeyed by night to the Presence of Sanctity, rising and becoming great

Great was the station of Ahmad, for he had from the

Noble Sanctity an ascent unto the heavens

And Allah took His Prophet by night to the heights

And the Spirit was the servant of his mount as he proceeded

And the celestial sphere rose by the treading of his feet

Then the majestic ones welcomed his arrival

For they were brightened by the light of his ascent

Praise of the Prophet is an adornment for every speech

Through his remembrance, tranquility envelops all creatures

In the Unseen of old, his essence was entrusted

His prophethood was established while Adam was yet clay

No emergence of his into existence had yet come to be

Taha, through whom the maladies of souls were cured

And through whom the heavens of hearts have cleared

By his night-journey, the spirits of angels were comforted

By his noble night-journey, they were breached and there were opened

Widely, the bolts of the gates of heaven

He attained in his night-journey the furthest limit

And he ascended in body to the Lote-tree of the Extremity

The outpouring of the Beginning from him reached everyone

Gabriel accompanied him to the limit, and so he reached the end

In the Light, Ahmad alone was immersed

How magnificent a glorious one he is, how magnificent

To the station of "or even closer," he drew near to his Lord

He truly beheld the One who kept his heart firm

Steadfast, he remained firm upon seeing his Lord

And he grasped the Address while his heart was tranquil

His sight swerved not while witnessing wonders

And there, the most Sublime Speaker addressed him

And showed him signs of magnificent degrees

Then he returned, unique in his spiritual gifts

While for him there was a clamor of various praises
