naʿtul kamāli minal kamāli nasību
The description of perfection is kin to perfection itself
walināʿitīhi bidhāka minhu naṣību
And those who describe it receive therefrom a share
fas maʿ dalīlan yaṣṭafīhi adību
So harken to a proof that a man of letters selects
almadḥu yaʿdhubu naẓmuhu wayaṭību
wayafūḥu minhu lisāmiʿīhiṭ ṭību
Praise grows sweet and pleasant in its composition
And its fragrance wafts unto those who hear it
yaḥyā bihi lilshshawqi aqdamu maʿhadin
Through it, the most ancient abode of longing is revived
wabihil ghalīlu yuballu baʿda tawaqqudin
And by it, the parched throat is quenched after its burning
was sirru yasrī lilghuīwbi bimashhadin
And the secret journeys to the unseen realms through witnessing
in kāna yutlā fī manāqibi aḥmadin
taṣbū ilayhi khawāṭirun waqulūbu
When recited regarding the virtues of Ahmad
Thoughts and hearts yearn for him with longing
anā ʿabduhu walahu uqīmu ʿalal ḥimā
I am his servant, and for his sake I dwell within the sanctuary
ashdū bamdāḥī lahu mutarannimā
Chanting my praises for him in rhythmic song
wanadāhu astandī liyarwiya liyaẓ ẓamā
I seek his bounty to quench my burning thirst
innī la’ughribu fī madā’iḥihi kamā
huwa fī jamīʿil kā’ināti gharību
Indeed, I reach for the unique in his praises
Just as he is unique among all created beings
ṭūrut tajallī fīl ḥaqīqati nafsuhu
The Mount of Manifestation is, in truth, his very self
walidhā ʿalā ʿan kulli waṣfin qudsuhu
Thus his holiness has transcended every description
maʿnāhu ghaybul kā’ināti waḥissuhu
His inner meaning is the unseen of creation and its sense
alqā sanāhu ʿalal wujūdi fashamsuhu
abadan ʿalal akwāni laysa taghību
He cast his radiance upon existence, so his sun
Shall never set upon the realms of being
badrun ʿalā falakil maʿāriji jismuhu
His body is a full moon upon the sphere of ascensions
wasarā likullin min sanāhu qismuhu
And to each, a portion of his radiance has journeyed
sirrus sarā’iri wal ʿawālimi wasmuhu
The secret of secrets and of the worlds is his mark
an law ra’aytal ʿarsha hālaka was muhu
fī kulli qā’imatin bihi maktūbu
Were you to see the Throne, it would awe you, for his name
Is inscribed upon every one of its pillars
adhʿantu jazman annahu ʿālīdh dhurā
I have conceded with certainty that his station is lofty
maʿnāhu fī ʿarshin wafarshin qad sarā
His spiritual essence has permeated the Throne and the earth
aw in shahidtu lahu jamaālan akbarā
Or whenever I witness for him a greater beauty
ayqantu anna muḥammadan khayrul warā
in shakka fī hadhal yaqīni murību
I am convinced that Muhammad is the best of creation
Though a doubter may waver in this certainty
rafaʿal muhayminu lilnnabiyyi makānahu
The Guardian Lord has elevated the Prophet's station
wa ashāda fī aʿlal ʿulā bunyānahu
And in the loftiest heights, He established his edifice
ṣallā ʿalayhi famā ajalla bayānahu
He blessed him—how majestic then is his clear speech
ānnī ra’aytu sinānahu walisānahu
hadhā khaḍību damin wadhāka khaṭību
I have seen both his spearhead and his tongue
This one stained with blood, and that one an orator
yā sālikan biṭarīqi ṭaha ṭul waṣul
O traveler upon the path of Taha, persist and prevail
waz zam sabīlan qad ʿalā kullas subul
And adhere to a way that has transcended all other paths
in dumta muntahijan ʿalayhi walam taḥul
If you remain steadfast upon it and do not deviate
abshir biribḥin an salakta ṭarīqahu
almuthlā fa anta ilal falāḥi taūbu
Rejoice in gain; if you follow his exemplary path
Then towards true success shall you return
qad ṭāba ʿallī fī hawāhu wamanhalī
My draught has grown sweet in his love, as has my spring
waqadiʿ talā naẓmī bimadḥil muʿtalī
And my verse has ascended by praising the one of high rank
ḍammantu madḥī fīhi ḥusna tawassulī
I have enshrined within my praise my fair entreaty
aḍrabtu ʿan madḥī siwāhu waḥuqqa lī
idh mā lahu fīl ʿālamīna ḍarību
I have turned away from praising any other, and rightly so
For he has no equal among all in the worlds
sal mā tasha’ min fayḍi baḥrin zākhirin
Ask what you wish from the overflow of a surging sea
mustabhijan biḍiyā’i badrin bāhirin
Rejoicing in the light of a most brilliant full moon
waj zum biwuddin bāṭinin fī ẓāhirin
And be certain of an affection both hidden and manifest
anā qad qaṭaʿtu biṣidqi ʿilmi tawāturin
ānnan nabiyya ʿalal madīḥi yuthību
I have concluded with the certainty of transmitted knowledge
That the Prophet grants rewards for his praise
innī liṣidqī bad daliyli muayyadun
In my truthfulness, I am supported by clear evidence
liyajidda muthnin lilmadā’iḥi mawridun
That a praiser may find a source for his panegyrics
fa aqūlu innal hāshimyya muḥammadun
For I say that the Hashimite, Muhammad
aṣghā ilā bānat wakaʿbun munshidun
lammā kasāhul burda wahwa qashību
Listened to "Banat Su'ad" while Ka'b was reciting
When he clothed him in the Mantle, fresh and new
