Clear Was the Vision

ṣafatin naẓrah ṭābatil ḥaḍrah
jā’atil bushrā liahl Allahi
Clear was the vision, the Gathering became sweet,
The glad tidings have come to the people of Allah
qāmuw sukārā lidhīl bishārah
jaʿlaw ʿimārah shukran lillāhi
They rose like the intoxicated upon hearing the good news,
And filled the place with devotion, in gratitude to Allah
ayyuhal ḥāḍir udhkur wadhākir
iyyāka tunkir ḥāla ahlillāhi
O you who are present, bear in mind and remind,
Beware of denying the state of the people of Allah
fasallim lahum fīmā ʿarāhum
waʿ lam annahum ghābuw fī Allahi
surrender to them in whatever overcomes them,
And know that they have vanished into the remembrance of Allah
fal wajdu bihim dāʿiy yadʿiyhim
yaṭra’ ʿalayhim fiy dhikrillāhi
For ecstasy is a caller that summons them,
seizing them in the remembrance of Allah
waman lam yajid falyatawājad
qaṣdan yataʿarraḍ lifaḍlillāhi
And he who finds no ecstasy, let him seek to invite it,
Intentionally exposing himself to the grace of God
hakadhā qāluw walidhā mālaw
walaqad ghāluw fī dhikrillāhi
Thus they spoke, and for this they swayed,
and went unrestrained in the remembrance of Allah
ḥattā qad ẓannā man laysa minnā
annā juninnā bidhikriāllhi
Until those who are not of us truly thought
That we had gone mad from the remembrance of Allah
haniy’an lanā thumma bushrānā
in kāna lanā ḥumqun fī Allahi
So blessed are we, and glad tidings for us,
If our “madness” is in Allah
