What Power Have I Over Anything?
En
Allahumma ṣalli ʿalal muṣṭafa
ḥabībinā muḥammad ʿalayhis salām
O Allah, send prayers upon The Chosen One
Our Beloved Muhammad, Peace be upon Him.
anā mālī fiyyāsh āsh ʿalayyā minnī
naqlaq min rizqī lāsh wal khāliq yarzuqnī
What power have I over anything? What can I do for myself?
Should I fear for my sustenance? Why, when my Creator sustains me?
anā ʿabdu rabbin lahu qudratun
yahūnu bihā kullu amrin ʿasīr
I am the servant of a Lord with the power
To make any hard thing easy
fa in kuntu ʿabdan ḍaʿīfal quwwati
farabbī ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr
What does it matter, then, that I am weak
Since my Lord has power over all things
minnī āsh ʿalayya wanā ʿabdun mamlūk
wal ashyā’ maqḍiyyā mā fīt taḥqīq shukūk
What can I do for myself? When I am a servant, a slave
All things are decreed by fate Of this there can be no doubt
almadadal madad ayā rasūla Allah
was qīnā bil madad ayā ḥabība Allah
Come to our aid, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ
And quench us with aid, O Beloved of Allah ﷺ
rabbī nāẓir fiyyā wanā naẓarī matrūk
fīl arḥām wal aḥshā min nuṭfatin ṣawwarnī
My Lord looks upon me My own view is of no value
Womb after womb, gut after gut, From a single drop He made me
yaqūlu limā shā’a kun fayakūnu wayubdiʿu subḥānahu wayuʿīd
wayaḥkumu fī khalqihi mā yashā’u wayafʿalu fī mulkihi mā yurīd
He says to whatever He wills, “be” and so it is, And He originates everything, Glory be to Him, and He causes their return
He decrees as He pleases In His creation, He does in His Kingdom as He wills
