طَابَ لِي خَلْعُ عِذَارِي
My Wantonness Befits Me

طَابَ لِي خَلْعُ عِذَارِي
فِي هَوَى الْبَدْرِ الْتَّمَامْ
ṭāba lī khalʿu ʿidhārī
fī hawal badril ttamām
My wantonness befits me,
in my desire for the perfect full moon
بِافْتِقَارِي وَانْكِسَارِي
أَرْتَجِيْ نَيْلَ الْمَرَامْ
bif tiqārī wan kisārī
artajiy naylal marām
By my poverty and my brokenness,
I hope to attain that for which I long
يَا عَذُوْلِي لَا تَلُمْنِي
مَا عَلَى الْعَاشِقُ مَلَامْ
yā ʿadhuwlī lā talumnī
mā ʿalal ʿāshiqu malām
O my critic, do not blame me,
for there is no blame upon the lover
اُدْنُ مِنِّي وَارْوِ عَنِّيْ
أَنَا فِي الْعِشْقِ إِمَامْ
udnu minnī war wi ʿanniy
anā fīl ʿishqi imām
Draw near to me and narrate from me,
for I am a master in the art of love
خَمْرَةُ الْأَحْبَابِ تُجْلَ
هِيَ حِلٌّ لَا حَرَامْ
khamratul aḥbābi tujla
hiya ḥillun lā ḥarām
The wine of the beloved ones is poured,
it is lawful, not forbidden
مِنْ عُيُونِ الْعِيْنِ تُمْلَى
صَانَهَا الْبَرُّ الْسَّلَامْ
min ʿuyūnil ʿiyni tumlā
ṣānahal barrul ssalām
From the eye’s springs up may it well,
guarded by the All-Benevolent, the Source of Peace
يَا أَخَا الْأَشْوَاقِ يَمِّمْ
سَيِّدَ الْرُّسْلِ الْكِرَامْ
yā akhal ashwāqi yammim
sayyidal rruslil kirām
O brother of yearnings, set your course,
to the Master of the Noble Prophets!
وَاغْنَمِ الْذِّكْرَ وَزَمْزِمْ
بِصَلَاةٍ مَعْ سَلَامْ
wagh namil dhdhikra wazamzim
biṣalātin maʿ salām
Seize remembrance and murmur,
blessings upon Him and peace
لِحَبِيْبِ الله أَحْمَدْ
كُلَّمَا جَنَّ الْظَّلَامْ
liḥabiybillāh aḥmad
kullamā jannal ẓẓalām
Upon the Beloved of Allah, Ahmad,
whenever the darkness of night descends
كُلُّ مَنْ وَالَاهُ يَسْعَدْ
وَيَنَالْ حُسْنَ الْخِتَامْ
kullu man wālāhu yasʿad
wayanaāl ḥusnal khitām
For everyone who loves him finds happiness,
and attains a beautiful end
