They Granted Me Union After My Distance
En
En
wāṣalūnī baʿda buʿdī
waraʿū sālifa ʿahdī
They granted me union after my distance,
and honored my past covenant
waʿlā raghmil ḥasūdi
anjazū bil waṣli waʿdī
And in spite of the envious,
they fulfilled my promise with union
yā surūrī bāllatdānī
yā hanā ḥaẓẓī wasaʿdī
O, my joy in this closeness!
O, the bliss of my luck and my fortune!
jāda lī badrī biwaṣli
īā hanā’ī niltu qaṣdī
My full moon was generous to me with union,
O my bliss, I have attained my goal
faj tamiʿ yā mā’a ʿaynī
n ṭafī yā nāra wajdī
So gather, O tears of my eyes (in joy),
And be extinguished, O fire of my longing
anā fī laylati unsī
qad ṣafā mawridu wirdī
For I am in my night of intimacy,
And the source of my spiritual spring has run clear
watanāwltu kuūsī
baīn rayḥānin wawardi
I have taken my cups [of love],
Amidst the scent of basil and roses
min yaday ḥulwil tthanyyi
fātinin ahyafi qaddi
From the hands of one with a graceful gait,
Captivating, with a slender and elegant frame
tāratan yunshidu khudh kāsī
waṭawran hāka khaddī
At times he sings, "Take my cup,"
And at others, "Here is my cheek."
in aqul yā alfa mawlā
qāla lī yā alfa ʿabdī
If I say, "O Master a thousand-fold,"
He replies, "O Servant a thousand-fold."
aw saqal mamzūja ghayrī
khaṣṣanī bālṣṣirfi waḥdī
If he gives others a diluted drink,
He singles me out for the pure and undiluted
fī hawāhu daʿ malamī
waṭ riḥ ghaīyyi warushdī
In his love, set aside your blame of me,
And cast away my sense of "wrong" or "right."
nāru wajdī fī hawāhu
kanaʿīmil khuldi ʿindī
For the fire of my passion in his love,
Is like the eternal bliss of Paradise to me
