Oh, How Beautiful He Is!
En
āh yā jamāluh yā jamāluh
sīdnan nabiā yā jamāluh
Oh, how beautiful he is! How beautiful he is!
Oh, how beautiful he is! How beautiful he is!
sīdnan nabiā yā jamāluh
Our Master, the Prophet, how beautiful he is!
kaḥīluṭ ṭarfi ḥabībī law tarāhu
ḍaḥūkus sinni lilʿāshiqi ramāhu
Kohl-eyed is my Beloved, if only you could see him!
Brightly smiling, he casts the lover into love-struck bewilderment
bahiyyuṭ ṭalʿah fal mawlāṣ ṭafāhu
wakullul khalqi anāra binūri ṭh
Radiant of countenance, the Lord Himself chose him,
And all creation is illumined by the light of Ṭā-Hā
walā ẓillu lahu bal kāna nuwrā
tanālash shamsu minhu huwal buduwra
He cast no shadow; rather, he was light
The sun takes its radiance from him, while he is the full moon
walam yakunil hudā lawlāhu ẓuhuwrā
wa kullul kawni anāra binuwri ṭaha
Had it not been for him, guidance would never have appeared,
And the whole universe is illumined by the light of Ṭā-Hā
wakafful muṣṭafā kal wardi nādiā
waʿiṭruhā yabqā idhā massat ayādiā
The palm of the Chosen One is like a fresh, dewy rose,
And its fragrance remains upon the hands that touch it
waʿamma nawāluhā kullal ʿibādi
ḥabību Allahi yā khayral barāyā
Its abundant bounty has reached all servants,
O Beloved of Allah, O best of all creation!
warīqul muṣṭafā yashfīl ʿalīla
waʿaynu qatādata khudhhā dalīlan
The blessed saliva of the Chosen One heals the ailing;
Take the eye of Qatādah as proof of this
tafala fīl bi’ri aḍḥat salsabīlan
waṣāra liṣaḥbihi shahdan mudāman
He spat into the well, and it became a flowing spring,
And for his Companions, it became as sweet as honey, ever-flowing
