I envy the sand that met his feet
Ngihalela isihlabathi esathinta izinyawo zakhe
I’m jealous of honey he tasted sweet
Ngihawukela uju olumnandi aluzwayo
Of birds that hovered above his head
Izinyoni ezazindizela phezu kwekhanda lakhe
Of spiders who spun their sacred web
Noziphephane abaluka ubulembu obungcwele
To save him from his enemies
Ukuze bamsindise ezitheni zakhe
I envy clouds formed from the seas
Ngihalela amafu akheka ezilwandle
That gave him cover from the heat
Amnika umthunzi ekushiseni okumandla
Of a sun whose light could not compete
Elanga elingeke liqhathaniswe nokukhanya kwakhe
With his, whose face did shine so bright
Nobuso bakhe obabukhanya ngokukhazimulayo
That all was clear in blinding night
Kwaze kwacaca nakubusuku obuphuphuthekisayo
I envy sightless trees that gazed
Ngihalela izihlahla eziphuphuthekile ezambuka
Upon his form completely dazed
Esithunzini sakhe zimangalisiwe
Not knowing if the sun had risen
Zingazi noma ilanga seliphunyele
But felt themselves in unison
Kodwa zazizizwa zihlangene kanyekanye
With those who prayed, and fasted too
Nalabo abakhulekayo nabazilayo
Simply because he told them to
Ngoba nje ebayalile
With truth and kindness, charity
Ngeqiniso nangomusa nokupha
From God who gave such clarity
Kuvela kuMvelinqangi owanika ukucaca
His mercy comes in one He sent
Umusa Wakhe uza ngalowo amthumileyo
To mold our hearts more heaven bent
Ukubumba izinhliziyo zethu zibheke ezulwini
I envy all there at his side
Ngihalela bonke ababengakuye
Who watched the turning of the tide
Ababuka ukuguquka kwesimo sezinto
As truth prevailed and falsehood fled
Lapho iqiniso linqoba namanga ebaleka
And hope restored life to the dead
Nethemba livusa abafileyo
Men and Women through him found grace
Amadoda nabasifazane bathola umusa ngaye
To seek together God’s noble face
Ukufuna kanyekanye ubuso bukaSomandla obuhle
I envy the cup that gave him drink
Ngihalela indebe eyamphuzisa
His thoughts that helped us all to think
Imicabango yakhe eyasisiza sonke ukuba sicabange
To be one thought that passed his mind
Ukuba umcabango owadlula engqondweni yakhe
Inspiring him to act so kind
Omgqugquzela ukuba enze ngomusa kangaka
For me this world is not one jot
Kimi lo mhlaba awuyona ngisho nenhlamvu
If I could simply be a thought
Uma nje bengingaba umcabango
From him to God throughout the ages
Kusuka kuye kuya kuNkulunkulu phakade
As revelation came in stages
Njengoba isambulo sasifika ngezigaba
I pity all who think it odd
Ngiyabudabukela bonke abakubona kuyinqaba
To hear him say there is one God
Ukumuzwa ethi kukhona uNkulunkulu oyedwa
Or he was sent by God to men
Noma ukuthi wathunywa uMvelinqangi kubantu
To hone their spirits’ acumen
Ukuze acije ubunyoningco bemimoya yabo
It’s pride that blinds us from the sight
Ukuzigqaja yikon’ okusiphumputhisa ekuboneni
That helps good men to see his light
Okusiza abantu abalungileyo ukubona ukukhanya kwakhe
He taught us all to be God’s slaves
Wasifundisa sonke ukuba yizinceku zikaSomandla
And he will be the one who saves
Futhi nguyena oyoba ngumsindisi
Humanity from sinful pride
Isintu ekuzigqajeni kwesono
Muhammad has God on his side
U-Muhammad uSomandla ungakuye
So on this day be blessed and sing
Ngakho-ke ngalolu suku busiseka ucule
For he was born to grace our Spring
Ngoba wazalelwa ukuhlobisa iNtwasahlobo yethu
With lilies, flowers, life’s rebirth
Ngeminduze, nezimbali, nokuvuselelwa kwempilo
In a dome of green like his on earth
Edomini eliluhlaza njengelakhe emhlabeni
