I envy the sand that met his feet

I’m jealous of honey he tasted sweet

Of birds that hovered above his head
Di l'acelli chì sopra u so capu bulonu
Of spiders who spun their sacred web
Di i ragnuli chì a so tela sacra tessonu
To save him from his enemies
Per salvallu da i so nemichi
I envy clouds formed from the seas
Inviu i nuli nati da i mari
That gave him cover from the heat
Chì u pruteggianu da u calore
Of a sun whose light could not compete
D'un sole chì a so luce ùn pudia cumpete
With his, whose face did shine so bright
Cù a soia, chì u so visu splindia tantu
That all was clear in blinding night
Chì tuttu era chjaru in a notte abbacinante
I envy sightless trees that gazed
Inviu l'arburi cechi chì u feghjonu
Upon his form completely dazed
A so forma, restendu cumpletamente stunati
Not knowing if the sun had risen
Senza sapè s'ellu s'era livatu u sole
But felt themselves in unison
Ma sintendusi in perfetta unione
With those who prayed, and fasted too
Cù quelli chì pregavanu, è ancu digiunavanu
Simply because he told them to
Solu perchè ellu l'avia urdinatu
With truth and kindness, charity
Cù verità è buntà, carità
From God who gave such clarity
Da Diu chì dete tanta chjarità
His mercy comes in one He sent
A so musericordia vene in quellu mandatu
To mold our hearts more heaven bent
Per piegà i nostri cori versu u celu
I envy all there at his side
Inviu tutti quelli chì eranu à u so latu
Who watched the turning of the tide
Chì viddinu u cambiamentu di u distinu
As truth prevailed and falsehood fled
Mentre a verità vince è a bugia fughje
And hope restored life to the dead
È a speranza ridete vita à i morti
Men and Women through him found grace
Omi è donne per ellu truvonu a grazia
To seek together God’s noble face
Per circà inseme u nobile visu di Diu
I envy the cup that gave him drink
Inviu a cuppa chì u fece biere
His thoughts that helped us all to think
I so penseri chì ci aiutanu tutti à pensà
To be one thought that passed his mind
Per esse un penseru chì li passò per a mente
Inspiring him to act so kind
Ispirendulu à agisce cù tanta buntà
For me this world is not one jot
Per mè stu mondu ùn vale un nunda
If I could simply be a thought
S'o pudessi solu esse un penseru
From him to God throughout the ages
Da ellu à Diu à traversu i seculi
As revelation came in stages
Mentre a rivelazione ghjunghjia per gradi
I pity all who think it odd
Aghju pietà di quelli chì u trovanu stranu
To hear him say there is one God
Di sentelu dì chì c'hè un solu Diu
Or he was sent by God to men
O ch'ellu fù mandatu da Diu à l'omi
To hone their spirits’ acumen
Per affinà l'acume di u so spiritu
It’s pride that blinds us from the sight
Hè l'orgogliu chì ci priva di a vista
That helps good men to see his light
Chì aiuta i boni omi à vede a so luce
He taught us all to be God’s slaves
Ci insignò à tutti à esse i servitori di Diu
And he will be the one who saves
È ellu serà quellu chì salverà
Humanity from sinful pride
L'umanità da u peccatu di l'orgogliu
Muhammad has God on his side
Muhammad hà à Diu da a so parte
So on this day be blessed and sing
Cusì in stu ghjornu siate benedetti è cantate
For he was born to grace our Spring
Perchè ellu hè natu per abbellì a nostra Primavera
With lilies, flowers, life’s rebirth
Cù gigli, fiori, a rinascita di a vita
In a dome of green like his on earth
In una cupula verde cum'è a soia nantu à a terra
