Yo
I envy the sand that met his feet
Mo ṣe ìlara yanrìn
I’m jealous of honey he tasted sweet
Mo ṣe ìlara oyin
Of birds that hovered above his head
Ti àwọn ẹyẹ
Of spiders who spun their sacred web
Ti àwọn aláǹtakùn
To save him from his enemies
Láti gba á là
I envy clouds formed from the seas
Mo ṣe ìlara àwọsánmà
That gave him cover from the heat
Tí ó ṣìji bò ó
Of a sun whose light could not compete
Ti oòrùn kan
With his, whose face did shine so bright
Pẹ̀lú tirẹ̀, ẹni tí ojú rẹ̀
That all was clear in blinding night
Tí gbogbo rẹ̀ fi hàn kedere
I envy sightless trees that gazed
Mo ṣe ìlara àwọn igi afọ́jú
Upon his form completely dazed
Tí wọ́n wo ìrísí rẹ̀
Not knowing if the sun had risen
Láì mọ̀ bóyá
But felt themselves in unison
Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n nímọ̀lára
With those who prayed, and fasted too
Pẹ̀lú àwọn tí ń gbàdúrà
Simply because he told them to
Nítorí pé
With truth and kindness, charity
Pẹ̀lú òtítọ́ àti inú rere
From God who gave such clarity
Láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run
His mercy comes in one He sent
Àánú Rẹ̀ wá
To mold our hearts more heaven bent
Láti tún ọkàn wa ṣe
I envy all there at his side
Mo ṣe ìlara gbogbo àwọn
Who watched the turning of the tide
Àwọn tí wọ́n rí
As truth prevailed and falsehood fled
Bí òtítọ́ ṣe borí
And hope restored life to the dead
Tí ìrètí sì mú
Men and Women through him found grace
Àwọn ọkùnrin àti obìnrin
To seek together God’s noble face
Láti jùmọ̀ wá
I envy the cup that gave him drink
Mo ṣe ìlara ago
His thoughts that helped us all to think
Àwọn ìrònú rẹ̀
To be one thought that passed his mind
Láti jẹ́ ìrònú kan
Inspiring him to act so kind
Tí ó rọ̀ ọ́
For me this world is not one jot
Fún mi, ayé yìí
If I could simply be a thought
Bí mo bá lè jẹ́
From him to God throughout the ages
Láti ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ sí Ọlọ́run
As revelation came in stages
Bí ìfihàn ṣe ń wá
I pity all who think it odd
Àánú ń ṣe mí fún àwọn
To hear him say there is one God
Láti gbọ́ lát’ẹnu rẹ̀ pé
Or he was sent by God to men
Tàbí pé Ọlọ́run
To hone their spirits’ acumen
Láti mú kí
It’s pride that blinds us from the sight
Ìgbéraga ni ó fó wa lójú
That helps good men to see his light
Tí ó ń ran ènìyàn rere
He taught us all to be God’s slaves
Ó kọ́ wa láti jẹ́
And he will be the one who saves
Òun náà sì ni
Humanity from sinful pride
Aráyé kúrò
Muhammad has God on his side
Muhammad ní
So on this day be blessed and sing
Nítorí náà ní ọjọ́ òní
For he was born to grace our Spring
Nítorí a bí i
With lilies, flowers, life’s rebirth
Pẹ̀lú àwọn òdòdó lili
In a dome of green like his on earth
Nínú sàréè tí ó ní orù ewé
